How to Naturally Whiten Your Teeth on the Cheap
Having been reminded of my “Orange Teeth” story, I thought I would break out a dating tip for looking your best from a bit of research I uncovered recently on the subject of getting your teeth their whitest.
No one wants stained or discolored teeth, but the thought of paying $300-$400 for whitening at a dentist’s office seems a bit harsh.
Looking around there are several over the counter products available from $30.00 and up.
There are a myriad of options from whitening strips, paint on teeth whiteners, tray based whitening and of course the good old dentist office. If you want some more information on any of these, here is one good site to try.
I wanted to see if there were any good methods of naturally whitening your teeth and this is what I discovered.
A research project was done by Lior I Schenk for the California State Science Fair that came up with the following results.
From least effective to most effective for whitening teeth: carrot, cauliflower, whitening strips, orange, celery, jicama, pear, baking soda, peroxide, apple, whitening toothpaste, strawberry, peroxide +baking soda, peroxide + lime, and finally, lime.
When the testing was repeated, the results were the same for whitening toothpaste, strawberry, baking soda + peroxide, peroxide + lime, and lime.
Lime was the clear winner.
Lior found that all in all, lime, pear, apple, and strawberry would be the best foods to eat as substitutes for actual bleaching; they are just as effective, and in some cases, even better.
I do not know about you, but I am going to break out one of my 89 cent limes from the bar and see how well it works.

Milk is a good teeth whitener, too, if you haven't mentioned it yet. It whitens teeth slower than a snail, but because it's colorless(..and white! :D) I guess that stands for something.
It's also makes your teeth stronger, being a dairy product and a good source of calcium. My suggestion? Brush/rinse your mouth with peroxide and whitening toothpastes, squish limes against your teeth, eat lotsa strawberries and apples, and then! Drink milk. BD Good luck and thanks for the tips..
