This question came via email. Does sweating make a cologne wear off faster?

Yes, sweating will absolutely make a scent wear off faster. That is also one of the reasons a scent may seem to last longer on one person than another.

You can combat this by layering the scent or by putting the scent in locations not as likely to sweat. Sweat in and of itself has a hormone in it that is attractive, called Androstenol, but after half an hour the hormone produced changes to Androstenone, which women find highly unpleasant. You can read our article "Men's Guide to Cologne," for more information. You can find it in our archives.
